Heroes of Newerth 2.6

Heroes of Newerth is a multiplayer online combat arena game. A bit more than a year passed since the game's release and the developer adopted the free-to-play model.

The game is now fully free to play, however at first you only get access to a limited amount of heroes which changes on a weekly bases. By playing you gain points with which you can unlock other heroes, ultimately if you play for a very long time you can unlock them all. The game also offers the possibility to buy coins which can be used to unlock the heroes instantly.

The gameplay is largely left unchanged, although new heroes are added once every two weeks, and sometimes even weekly. It is still considered one of the top multiplayer online battle arena games by critics and players alike. It has a large player base and since the switch to the free to play model more and more players keep joining.

At first Heroes of Newerth was regarded as a DotA clone, due to a large number of similar heroes and even the main map was heavily based on DotA's one. Now the game has a lot of new heroes and maps. There are 3 different types of maps: the original DotA lookalike map, a 3v3 map and a different looking 5v5 map.

Over time they have also added new features like "taunt" and special sound effects that are only available if you purchase coins with real money. In any case Heroes of Newerth is still growing and with new heroes coming to the table every week or so. The developer was proven right when saying HoN is in continuous development and never-ending improvement.
